Scouts in district competition success

Saturday, 17th October 2009.

On the second weekend of October, members of 1st Haverhill Scouts came home with the trophy from the Sudbury District scouts competition, competing against 15 other patrols from across the region.

The challenge included a ten-mile hike, using map and compass, with observational challenges on the way. They had to set up camp using lightweight tents and cooking all meals for themselves.

On the Sunday, their were four further challenges of map symbol recognition, fire-lighting, an obstacle course where they had to carry a billycan full of water without spilling any and finally a balloon tower build, where they had to construct a tower of balloons.

For the first time in many years, the four from 1st Haverhill troop scored the most points overall, bringing home the shield.
