Solicitors back hospice's wills week

Friday, 30th April 2010.

Solicitors from Haverhill and Clare have again backed a scheme which last year raised £26,000 for St Nicholas Hospice Care.

The hospice’s Wills Weeks event running throughout June will see solicitors draw up wills in return for a suitable donation to the charity.

Solicitors from Haverhill-based Adams Harrison and Wayman & Long, from Clare, have signed up and will be participating for one week during the month-long event.

Last year, 181 people took advantage of this offer and helped raise more than £25,000.

Jan Brownfoot, who has previously taken advantage of the scheme, said: “This is a great way to make a will at a reasonable cost while raising thousands for such a worthwhile charity as the hospice.

"People often underestimate the importance of making a will - if you die without one, your money and possessions may not be distributed in the way you would have wished."

Margaret Lee, hospice legacy officer, said: "We are delighted so many solicitors are giving their time for free to help the hospice.

"We sincerely hope that people taking part in the scheme will give an appropriate donation that acknowledges this generous support. Getting a will drafted, protects your family and gives everyone peace of mind."

People wanting to take up the offer should contact the individual solicitor directly to organise a suitable date and time.

Between June 15 and 22, solicitors from Adams Harrison will be participating in the scheme and can be contacted on 01440 702485.

And Clare-based Wayman & Long will be on hand to deal with will requests between June 22 and 30. They can be reached on 01787 277375.
