Spate of wing mirror damage leads to police warning

Monday, 7th March 2011.

Police are advising motorists who park on the roadside in Haverhill to make sure their wing mirrors are folded in when they leave the vehicle, after a spate of vandalism at the weekend.

Five cars were targeted between Friday night and Sunday afternoon on the Parkway estate and roads leading to it.

The first incident realted to a car parked in Belvoir Court which jhad both its wing mirrors kicked off at around 11.40pm on Friday.

Then a car parked in Queensway had its wing mirror damaged on Saturday night around 11.25pm.

Cars in Castle Walk and Bodiham Court had wing mirrors damaged overnight on Saturday to Sunday, and car parked in Crowland Road was scratched sometime between Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

PC Rupert Beynon of Haverhill police said any information from anyone who saw any of the offences or knew anything about them would be very helpful, as it was believed there were witnesses.

"We advise peoploe to fold in their wing mirrors or, if possible leave the vehicle in a garage," he said.

The incidents happened on a known route by which people walk into town or back home again, probably late at night.
