Spooks and dragons take over at leisure centre

Monday, 19th October 2009.

A spooky Halloween Ball, street-style basketball, and a chance to meet a real bearded dragon, are just some of the activities on offer for half term at Haverhill Leisure Centre.

Halloween starts at the centre on Wednesday, October 28, with a children’s Spooky Ball. There will be dancing, prizes and ghoulish games for children of all ages from 5.30pm to 7pm. During the day children can make their own Halloween fancy dress costume from old clothes and items they have brought along and have their face painted at a ‘Make It’ session.

There’s also a Halloween Disco Pool Party on Friday, October 30, and a chance to make Halloween decorations at a second ‘Make It’.

The amazing Streetball Extreme will be at the Leisure Centre, also on the Friday, showcasing some of the best streetball players and freestylers in the world. Streetball Extreme shot to fame after its smash hit TV show Battle For Europe which was broadcast on the Extreme Sports Channel and was one the most successful shows in the channel’s history.

Youngsters aged ten to 16 will get the chance to try street dance, streetball/basketball and cheerleading and get tips from world class freestylers from 10am to 3pm.

Before all the spooks take over, the very popular Reptile House session takes place on Tuesday, October 27, at 10am. Children will get the chance to have their photograph taken with real snakes, bearded dragons and spiders.

Centre general manager Dominic Greenwood said: “We have a great programme for youngsters in Haverhill this half-term. There are activities for every age group from tots to teenagers. I am particularly excited to be welcoming Streetball Extreme, a fantastic group of talented lads who have created a highly entertaining sport which you cannot fail to want to join in.”

Other activities for half term include football sessions, an active kids afternoon, a day camp for children aged eight to 13, a multi sports morning and a messy tots activity session.
