St Edmundsbury Skate Jam 2008

Monday, 14th July 2008.

Flips, grinds, scratching and street art will take centre stage at a special event organised to give young people the chance to showcase their talents.

Skate Jam 2008, which takes place in Bury St Edmunds on Sunday 20 July, follows the huge success of the first event of its kind in the area last year, which attracted over 500 young people from across the borough. It has been organised by St Edmundsbury Borough Council, with main sponsors Hardcore Hobbies, to give young people the chance to both show off their skills and try their hand at something new.

During the packed afternoon designed to celebrate urban culture, graffiti artists will be creating new murals, DJs will be spinning discs and a professional dance tutor will be holding break dancing sessions. Meanwhile, on the ramps of the skate park itself, prizes will be given out to skateboarders, inline skaters and BMX riders.

The free event is open to all ages and will take place between 12 noon and 7pm.

Cllr Sara Mildmay-White, portfolio holder for community, said:
“This afternoon of activities will give the borough’s young people an excellent opportunity to try something new and show off the talents they already have. We are delighted to be able to host this event which caters for the needs of our younger residents and combines fun with active exercise.”
