Students set new record of A level success

Friday, 20th August 2010.

For the fourth year running A level results in Suffolk have improved and look set to be the highest ever in the county.

More than 3,000 Suffolk students received their A level results yesterday.

Based on the information received from schools so far, Suffolk County Council says the proportion of higher grades (A* to C) is 68 per cent. This represents an increase of four per cent on last year.

A number of students have gained the new A* grade. Nationally this grade makes up eight per cent of all those awarded but some schools in Suffolk have done even better, gaining at least ten per cent A* grades.

These schools include King Edward VI Upper School, Bury St Edmunds, and Northgate High School, Ipswich.

Cllr Graham Newman, the county council's portfolio holder for children, schools and young people’s services, said: “I would like to congratulate all those that have worked so hard and achieved such great results.

"These results are the combination of two years of dedication by students and their teachers. They also reflect the commitment of both their school or college and their parents/carers.

“For many, today will mark the start of a new life either at university or in employment and we wish all our young people the very best for their future.

"For those young people who did not get the grades, there is plenty of help and advice available through the Connexions service.”

Students who would like advice on what they could do next, can access the Suffolk Youth and Connexions Service results surgery in the following ways:

* Freephone 0800 085 4448 and speak to a Connexions Adviser
