Support group’s invite to picnic

Thursday, 6th June 2002.

Childminders at Haverhill have set up their own support group with the help of a £150 grant from Haverhill Town Council.

Members of the new group picked up their cheque at the annual town meeting and are now hoping to encourage other childminders to join them.

They are holding a picnic at the East Town Park on Thursday, June 20, at 11.30am and would like other childminders, or those who would like to become one, to join them.

Rachel Blyth, 37, is one of the founder members of the group, after four years as a childminder. She finds the work fits in well with caring for her own children, aged 11 and 8.

“There are only a few of us at the moment, but we know there are a lot of other childminders out there and we want to let them know about the group.

“We go to a lot of toddler groups, but it is not quite the same when the children are not yours. Often if a childminder has a problem, another one will have come across it before and can help,” Ms Blyth said.

The group hopes to find a hail to hold regular meetings. Anyone interested in joining them can attend the picnic or ring Rachel on (01440) 763265.
