Swimmers get ready for a charity challenge

Monday, 12th April 2010.

Swimmers from Haverhill will be raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care on Sunday, April 18, by completing a swimathon at the town's Leisure Centre.

Twenty-seven swimmers will be challenging themselves to complete a 5k, 2.5k or 1.5k swim individually or as part of a team.

There is still time to enter the swimathon, which starts at 10.30am, by registering online at www.swimathon.org or by calling 0845 36 700 36.

Last year Swimathon raised almost £1.5million for Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Swimathon foundation. The money funds the work of more than 2,000 Marie Curie nurses across the UK.

Dominic Greenwood, general manager at Haverhill Leisure Centre, said: “We are proud to host the Swimathon this year for Marie Curie Cancer Care and we hope that thousands of pounds will be raised by Haverhill swimmers for this great cause.

"If you cannot make it along to the pool on Sunday then you can also register for SimplySwim, a challenge which allows you to swim your own chosen distance at the pool at your chosen time.”
