Swimmers take on marathon challenge for cancer care

Tuesday, 29th March 2011.

Swimmers from Haverhill will be raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care on Sunday, April 10, by completing a swimathon at Haverhill Leisure Centre.

Intrepid swimmers will be challenging themselves to complete a 5k, 2.5k or 1.5k swim individually or as part of a team.

There is still time to enter the swimathon, which starts at 10.30am, by registering online at www.swimathon.org or by calling 0845 36 700 36.

This year the swimathon will take place at 575 pools nationwide with more than 22,000 swimmers aiming to beat £2million raised in 2010. The money funds the work of more than 2,000 Marie Curie Nurses across the UK.

Struan Banfield, assistant manager at Haverhill Leisure Centre, said: “We hope that people of all swimming abilities will join in for this great cause.

“The swimathon has become something of an annual event here in Haverhill and if you cannot make it along to the pool on April 10 then don’t worry, you can also register for SimplySwim, a challenge which allows you to swim your own chosen distance at the pool at your chosen time.”
