Take a look into your future

Thursday, 25th February 2010.

Haverhill Leisure Centre is offering the chance to find out what you will look like when you get older, as part of its build-up to National No Smoking Day.

On Friday, March 5, NHS Suffolk Stop Smoking Service advisors will be showing Leisure Centre visitors how smoking can affect future facial appearance with state-of-the-art age progression software.

The software will generate a computer image of what a person will look like in 10, 20 or 30 years time, based on whether or not they smoke.

NHS Stop Smoking advisors will also be on hand with advice on how to quit smoking and some free giveaways ahead of National No Smoking Day on 10 March.

Oliver Langford, Smoking Project Worker at Suffolk PCT, said: "Each year one million people make a quit attempt on No Smoking Day.

"The dramatic effect smoking has on appearance is just one of the many reasons why people aim to quit. The age progression software illustrates how alarming the ageing effects of smoking can be.”

The age progression software will be available at the Leisure Centre from 10am to 12noon.

Amelia Epton, sports development officer, said: “Most people are aware of the health problems that smoking can cause but many do not realise the effect that smoking has on their physical appearance, especially as we age.

"With the help of Suffolk PCT we will be showing visitors to the Leisure Centre what they will look like as they get older and how to stop smoking now to prevent problems in the future.”
