Taxi driver assaulted in Bury St Edmunds

Thursday, 1st October 2015.

Police are appealing for help in tracing a man after a taxi driver was assaulted near the Spar Shop, Hunter Road in Bury St Edmunds.

The victim, aged in his 60s, was waiting for a passenger at around 7.45pm on Saturday 26 September, when the offender approached the window asking if the vehicle was a taxi, to which he replied yes but was waiting for a passenger.

At this point he was then punched through the open window and dragged out of the taxi onto the ground and punched a further two or three times before members of the public intervened.

The suspect is described as white, aged between 35 and 40 years of age, around 5ft 10ins tall, of medium build, with either bald or very short hair , and wearing a grey T-shirt with a dark hoody and dark bottoms.

Any witnesses to this incident or anyone who is able to identify the individual described should contact PC Emma Stacey at Bury St Edmunds Police Station on 101 quoting crime number BU/15/3139, or alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
