Taylor's Foundry Offers to Replace Soldier's Plaque

Friday, 11th July 2008.

Gerry Taylor of Haverhill based Taylor's Foundry has offered to replace for free the stolen brass plaque marking the grave of a soldier who was killed in Afghanistan.

Cpl Darren Bonner, 31, of Peterborough, was serving with the 1st Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment, when he died in an explosion in Helmand in May 2007.

The plaque marked where his ashes were buried at Enfield Crematorium.

Gerry Taylor explained that he had heard previously about Cpl Bonner's mother taking part in a sponsored walk for charity.

Shocked by the theft and wanting to help, Mr Taylor said:"When this story came up I thought at last there is something I can do. We would like to donate a plaque in replacement for the one which was stolen, for which I'm sure the people who stole it will get about £2!"
