Teenage girls are accosted in street

By Jo Deeks on Thursday, 3rd October 2002.

TWO teenage girls were accosted in Withersfield Road, Haverhill, on Saturday night.

The girls, aged 16 and 17, were walking from the play area in Howe Road along Withersfield Road at around 10pm. As they got near to the cemetery, a man driving a small white car pulled up beside them. The man reached across the passenger seat and made an attempt to grab one of the girls.

He then offered them a lift home, but the girls ran off and called a parent, who came to collect them.

Police are anxious to trace the man and the car. He was white, in his late 50s, with white to grey short hair, of slim to medium build and clean- shaven.

Police would like the man, who may have a perfectly reasonable explanation for his actions, to come forward. They would also like to hear from anyone who recognises the man or his car. Anyone who can help should call Pc Lawrence at Haverhill police station on (01284) 774470.

Last Thursday, two girls were accosted by a man driving a white van at Willingham, but police have not linked the two incidents.
