Thieves target handbags and purses

Monday, 9th May 2011.

Handbags and purses have been targeted by thieves in Haverhill over the last few days.

At around 3.30pm on Thursday cash was stolen from a handbag left on a bench on the Recreation Ground in Camps Road for a few minutes. A purse from the bag was left in a nearby bin.

Calls in relation to this incident should be made to PC Cheryl Claydon at Haverhill Police on 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Then in High Street at around 11am on Friday a purse was stolen from a 69-year-old woman’s handbag in the town centre. It was later handed in at a bank with cash missing.

A purse was stolen from an 82-year-old woman’s shoulder bag in Sainsbury's supermarket between 12pm and 12.45pm on Thursday.
