Thieves trick their way into elderly couple's home

Wednesday, 4th November 2009.

A group of men stole cash from an elderly couple in Haverhill on Friday by tricking the man into thinking his bicycle was being stolen.

The incident happened in Hazel Close around 9pm when the man was disturbed by a noise at his window and found a man outside who claimed someone was trying to steal his bicycle.

He went outside and put his bicycle back in his garden, but when he returned he found his wife shouting at three men in the lounge.

They ran out of the house towards North Avenue and Burton End, and the couple found that some cash had been taken.

The first man was described as white, around 5ft 6in tall of avergae build and wearing a light-coloured hooded top. The second was white, around 5ft tall of large build with a moustache and wearing a long blue or purple hooded jacket. The third man was around 5ft tall.

Anyone who can help with any information can contact DC Andy George at Bury CID on 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
