Three vehicles destroyed by arson attacks

Monday, 19th March 2012.

Three vehicles were set ablaze in the middle of the night close to residential properties on Haverhill's Clements estate early on Sunday.

Around 4am residents were awakened by an explosion of one of the vehicles in Cornwallis Road.

A VW van, a transit and a car were destroyed

A fire engine from Haverhill was mobilised after calls at 4.10am and the crew found a van which was well alight with fire spreading to a neighbouring van and approximately ten metres of fencing.

Crews used two sets of breathing apparatus and a hose reel to bring the incident under control with the appliance being supplemented with water from a hydrant.

A few minutes later the fire service started to receive multiple calls reporting a vehicle fire in nearby Gloucester Road, Haverhill and found a car which was well alight.

Both incidents are believed to be deliberate, and anyone with any information should ring Suffolk Police on the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
