Ticketing blitz on illegal parkers in High Street under way

Monday, 2nd July 2012.

Haverhill police have already issued 25 tickets to motorists parked illegally in High Street in the two weeks since the issue was voted a priority for them at a public meeting.

PC Will Wright of Haverhill Safer Neighbourhood Team said the action would continue in the form of random checks.

He had a message for people who said they were uncertain of the legalities and zones because of the shared space design which has no kerbs: "If in doubt use a car park."

"We shall be issuing tickets when we are in that area on patrol," he said, "and when we get complaints from the public.

"We would ask, politely, that consideration be given for all members of the community using both High Street and Queen Street."

But he explained that illegal parking would continue to be only the third-placed priority, because the other two voted for concerned anti-social behaviour - one in Queen Street and one on the Chalkstone estate.

He said the Government decision-making model making anti-social behaviour a national priority would be followed.
