Too few councillors to make a meeting

Wednesday, 16th February 2011.

Members of a Haverhill group required to make a presentation to Haverhill Town Councillors about a grant they applied for turned up last night - but the councillors didn't.

Haverhill Town Council's meeting had to be called off because only four of the 16 members were present, and the quorum requires six.

Members of Haverhill Flower Club had attended after they were asked to give a presentation to the council about their 50th anniversary flower festival planned for 2013, toward which they were asking for a grant of £2,000.

The club members will now have to attend again next week.

The council was also due to other issues including the fiture of youth services in Haverhill in the light of likely cuts by Suffolk County Council.

Items on last night's agenda will now also be added to next week's. The council was, unusually, having to meet every week during February as part of its budget-setting process.

Next week members will be setting the level of council tax the council will be asking for 2011/12.
