Town centre theft linked with one in Hadleigh

A woman who gave an Asian-looking man some change in Haverhill town centre on Monday lunchtime then found he had stolen cash from her purse.

Police are linking this incident with a similar one in Hadleigh earlier that morning.

In Crown Passage in Haverhill between 12.10pm and 12.15pm the man asked the woman for change, she gave him a small amount and he walked off. She then found cash had been stolen from her purse.

The man is described as of Asian appearance, in his 40s, of slim build with short straight hair and was wearing black cropped trousers and a brown jacket. He spoke in broken English.

In the Hadleigh incident, which happened outside a supermarket, the thief was described as of Asian appearance, over 6ft tall, of large build with black hair and wearing a beige top, a brown jacket, dark blue cropped trousers with a white stripe down the sides, pulled-up socks and dark coloured trainers.
