Two aces on the same day

Tuesday, 1st December 2009.

Congratulations go to two Haverhill golfers, Gerry Scott and Frank Smith, who both celebrated a hole in one on the same day - Saturday, November 28!

Gerry was playing in the mixed foursomes match against Seckford, when his tee shot on the second , using an eight iron for the 125-yard par three, was heading directly for the pin.

The ball took one bounce on the green and then went straight in the hole for an ace!

Frank Smith, who was playing in a social round of golf, struck gold on the 12th using his four wood on the 186-yard par three. This was Frank’s second hole in one in three months, (the other being on 16th) and his fifth since starting to play golf in 1985!

Duncan Galloway was the overall winner of the IFF Challenge which was played on Wednesday, November 25, with a nett score of 70.

The full results were as follows: Division One - 1 Duncan Galloway 81-11-70; 2 Tim Daniels 85-12-73; 3 Chris Vince 78-5-73 (lowest gross). Division Two - 1 David Roope 87-16-71; 2 Richard Rand 90-19-71; 3 Brian Jones 90-18-72. Division Three - 1 Duncan Watson 101-26-75 on countback; 2 Patrick Bowes 98-23-75; 3 Barry Shuter 98-22-76.

The November Medal, played on Sunday, saw Lee Chandler winning the overall competition with an impressive nett 67, having had the lowest gross score of 73, and beating Jim Walker on countback.

The full results were as follows: Division One - 1 Lee Chandler 73-6-67 on countback; 2 Jim Walker 76-9-67; 3 Peter McLennan 81-12-69. Division Two - 1 Eric Armstrong 83-15-68; 2 David Roope 85-16-69; 3 Julian North 82-13-69. Division Three - 1 Ellis Woko 94-24-70; 2 Robert Haylock 93-21-72; 3 Paul Donno 99-25-74.

Haverhill played their last mixed fixture of the year against Seckford at home on Saturday. This was played as a four ball better ball competition, Hambro format.

The hosts were in top form once again, with a comprehensive win 14-3. The icing on the cake was Gerry Scott’s hole in one and his thanks were passed onto the very sporting Seckford team, who joined in the celebrations in the clubhouse afterwards.
