Underground pipeline plan before council

Thursday, 13th January 2000.

A PLAN to build a 4.3 mile (7km) long underground gas pipeline between Grampian Country Pork at Little Wratting and Highpoint Prison in Stradishall has been submitted to planners.
BG Energy Services has submitted the application to St Edmundsbury Borough Council for the pipeline, which would be provided within the confines of the highway.
Paul Holliday, a project manager for BG Energy Services, said the scheme was in its infancy, following a request from Highpoint for a gas supply to be provided to the prison.
They were looking at the feasibility of the work, working out costings and going through procedures such as applying for planning permission.
However, no definite decision had been made as yet that the work would go ahead.
Although it would cost a lot of money to pipe in gas, Mr Holliday said it could well prove a viable option for a big energy user such as a prison.
If planning permission was granted and the scheme got the go ahead from the Prison Service, it was possible work could start as soon as February.
Work would take around three months to complete and efforts would be made to keep disruption to a minimum by consultation with statutory authorities and local landowners.
