Useful business advice - if you can find the time

Thursday, 10th January 2013.

Small businesses struggling working all hours could usefully take a couple out next week to hear about striking a balance between work and life.

Thebestof Haverhill will hold its next business meeting on Thursday, January 17, at Days Inn, from 10am to 11.30am.

Following an exciting but economically challenging and demanding year for many businesses thebestof Haverhill begins its 2013 programme of events with a session on work/life balance.

The guest speaker is John Porter from Business Improvements Ltd, a local company based in Horringer.

John is a business coach and trainer with more than 28 years of experience in helping individuals and teams perform more effectively and achieve their goals and ambitions by adopting smarter working practices.

Since 1984 John has helped over 20,000 people in areas such as time-management, sales training, executive coaching and HR and recruitment issues.

Whether working on a one-to-one basis, as part of a tailored training programme or running a one-day workshop for a team, the philosophy for Business Improvements is always to get the best out of people.

Elaine Carr, owner of thebestofhaverhill said: “January is often a time for reflection - the month when we consider how our business has performed, what we have achieved and what needs to be done differently going forward.

"There can also be a feeling of anticipation of what the New Year could bring if we realise our full potential. We have the opportunity to start again with a clean slate.

"It seemed appropriate to invite John to talk to us about work/life balance. Many small business owners work very long hours and perhaps are not as effective as they could be.

"It’s easy to be fooled into thinking that the more hours you devote to working in your business the more successful you will be. The key is what you do in the time you are working not how long you are there!

"Procrastination is another real issue for business owners. It’s the demon that prevents us from doing so many things and is something that John will address in his presentation.

"I have heard John speak before and he is pragmatic in his advice and engaging in his delivery. I would encourage local businesses, especially those who do not tend to come to networking events, to give this one a try – I am sure they will find it time well spent.”

If you would like to attend this free event at Days Inn please call Elaine Carr on 01440 710 158 or email Haverhill@thebestof.co.uk by Tuesday, January 15.

The event is open to any local organisations - you do not have to be a member of the bestofhaverhill to attend.
