Vandals target a series of outbuildings

Wednesday, 20th June 2012.

A series of break-ins at outbuildings in Colne valley Road over the weekend has led to a police appeal for information.

Police in Haverhill are appealing for information after damage was caused to three outbuildings between 5pm on Friday, June 15, and 1.30pm on Sunday, June 17.

Offenders gained access to the buildings, causing damage to the doors.

Graffiti was sprayed inside one and on the outside of another. The contents of a documents cabinet were strewn around the room of one hut. The fire extinguisher in one hut was set off.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the area at the time.

Calls can be made to Sgt Gary Miller, quoting crime number HH/12/12/83 on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

A warning has also gone out about distraction burglaries in the area after one in Kedington yesterday afternoon.

A man called at a house in Hall Road at around 5.30pm, claiming to be from Anglian Water and needing to check that the water was running clear.

He was admitted by the elderly occupant and turned on taps throughout the property. After around five minutes he said he was happy and left.

A short time later cash was found to be missing from a handbag in the lounge.

The man is described as white with a pale complexion, aged 30, 6ft tall, of slim build with short dark brown spikey hair. He was wearing a white long-sleeved shirt with thin vertical dark blue stripes, a blue tie, navy trousers and a lanyard.

Members of the public are reminded to be vigilant against this type of crime and to prevent access to anyone who calls at their door, whose identity they are unsure of.
