Venue switch gives Rovers lads no problem

Monday, 15th February 2010.

EASTERN JUNIOR ALLIANCE LEAGUE UNDER 15s PRESIDENTS CUP, ROUND ONE: Brentwood London 0 Haverhill Rovers 2, match report.

Haverhill switched this tie due to a bad home pitch but ended up playing on a bad away pitch.

This didn’t thwart the Rovers who went straight on the attack. Clarke carried on from last week with another fine performance down the right.

Haines returned to the midfield alongside Taylor and put in a gritty performance on a boggy surface.

Gage and Kennedy stood tall at the back while recently-appointed captain Hardwick showed great endeavour to carve out the first chance for the visitors. His effort went wide of the post.

Gathercole then had a chance which went over the bar and had a second effort cleared off the line.

With the pressure mounting and chances going begging, Kennedy won the ball for Clarke to chase. He burst into the box before slotting in a deserved goal.

Robson joined the play in the second half and was instrumental in setting up the decisive second.

Adam Palmer played the ball up to Robson who flicked it onto Gathercole, who then played a one-two with Robson before using his pace to run clear of the defence and passing the ball past the on-rushing keeper.

Brentwood did push on in the latter stages but found Saville in his usual commanding manner in goal.
