Volunteers sought to uphold council integrity

By Martin Chapman on Wednesday, 12th December 2001.

Impartial volunteers with integrity are being sought by at St Edmundsbury Borough Council.

The appeal comes as the Borough Council puts two new pieces of the jigsaw into place in creating a more streamlined and open local government.

People independent of the council will form the Independent Remuneration Panel which will be responsible for advising St Edmundsbury of the level of expenses councillors should receive for the duties.

Volunteers are also needed for the standards committee whose job it will be to oversee councillors conduct and ensure they keep to highest ethical standards.

Volunteers are needed for both the standards committee and Independent Remuneration Panel; and should be received by January 11, 2002.

An info pack is available by writing to Head of Democratic Services, St Edmundsbury Borough Council, Borough Offices, Angel Hill, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. IP33 1XB. For an informal chat about the roles contact Steve Lincoln on 01284 757108.
