Watchdog praises borough's use of resources

Wednesday, 30th September 2009.

Making sure the best staff, with the best skills are in the right place at the right time has given St Edmundsbury Council a very good Audit Commission inspection score.

The Audit Commission, the independent watchdog for local public services, has given St Edmundsbury a top mark of four -'excellent performance' - in the 'managing resources' category.

This recognises the way the council manages its staff, by ensuring they have the necessary training, skills and flexibility to deal with rapidly changing national and local situations.

In the other two elements of the inspection managing finances and governing the business, St Edmundsbury scored three.

In a report to St Edmundsbury's performance and audit committee the Audit Commission inspector noted that St Edmundsbury is excellent at workforce planning, by making sure it has the staff to match its priorities so it can be adaptable when customers' needs change.
