Weekend of charity fun in aid of wounded heroes

Wednesday, 29th June 2011.

Two charity days will be held at Haverhill Tersco this weekend in aid of wounded members of the armed forces.

Tesco has generously allowed Help for Heroes to run collection days outside 827 stores nationwide on Friday and Saturday, July 1 and 2, and Haverhill’s Tesco Community Champion Claire Bowden is co-ordinating an exciting fund raising event at the store in Cangle Road.

Claire and her staff will be dressing up in armed forces gear as they are joined by the Haverhill cadets and the Lions Club.

It will be an event to remember with an army command tent at the front of the store, face-painting and a message board of support, all to help raise as much as possible to help make a big difference to the lives of the nation's wounded heroes.

Amy Taylor, volunteer Help for Heroes Suffolk collection co-ordinator, said: “Claire and her team of amazing volunteers have shown such incredible support for Help for Heroes that this event promises to be extremely successful and a lot of fun!

"Haverhill has really stepped up to the challenge and is at the forefront of this exciting national event.”

Help for Heroes was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry in October 2007 out of a desire to help the wounded servicemen and women returning from Afghanistan and Iraq and provides direct, practical support to those injured since 9/11.
