Whipping up interest in healthy eating

Thursday, 10th December 2009.

A Haverhill school has been discovering the smooth way to healthy eating - with a bit of help from the town's new Tesco store.

Tesco home economist Jackie Barnett was recently at Castle Hill Middle School demonstrating to pupils how to make delicious, healthy smoothies to promote healthy eating.

Whether Jackie was using fresh mangoes, natural yoghurt or fruit juice, she was whipping up all kinds of delicious smoothies to satisfy all tastes as part of the smoothie workshop.

Castle Hill won the workshop after year six pupil Paulina Rozentalska entered a competition inviting pupils to draw a poster describing how they like to stay healthy.

Not only did Paulina win the smoothie workshop for her year group, but also received a £50 Tesco gift card for herself and a £500 donation for her school.

Claire Buckle from Castle Hill said: “Jackie was brilliant. It was great that the children could learn about healthy eating in a fun, interactive environment, and they loved trying the different smoothies.”

Store community champion Claire Bowden said: “We provided the smoothie workshop as we want to promote healthy eating and encourage local children to eat lots of fresh fruit and other healthy foods. I am delighted that they enjoyed the session, and it was lovely to meet everyone.”
