Witnesses sought after attempted burglaries

Monday, 22nd September 2014.

Police are appealing for information after two attempted burglaries in Haverhill at the weekend.

The first occurred at around 4.40am on Saturday, September 20, at a house in Blaxhall Court, where an attempt was made to kick-in the front door.

A group of three or four men were heard in a nearby underpass egging on another youth to kick the door in.

The occupants, a pensioner couple, called police and the offender ran off, leaving a blue Adidas Gazelle-type trainer wedged in the door.

While police were talking to the couple the youth returned and recovered his trainer. One of the officers chased him but he got away

The offender is described as white, around 6ft tall and wearing a black hooded top, and one of the group was overheard to call him Tommy.

The second incident took place between 10pm on Saturday, September 20, and 7.30pm the next day at a house in Feltwell Place.

During this time the outer seal of the glass in the back door was removed in an attempt to gain entry to the house, which was unsuccessful.

Anyone with information about either of these crimes is asked to contact the Bury St Edmunds Priority Crime Team on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
