Woman, 47, attacked near Recreation Ground

Tuesday, 5th April 2011.

Police are appealing for information after a 47-year-old woman was assaulted in the street early on Sunday morning.

She was walking along Camps Road opposite the Recreation Ground between 12.30am and 1.15am, when she heard someone behind her, but could not see anyone.

When she reached the Methodist Church a man ran from the Rec and pushed her to the floor. She struggled and he ran off towards the town centre, leaving her shaken but unhurt.

The man is described as black, between 5ft 8in and 5ft 10in tall, with short black hair and was wearing a dark jacket and dark jeans.

Police want to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time, particularly three men. Two of them were on foot and stopped and spoke to the woman to see if she was ok.

She then ran towards a place of safety and was stopped by the male driver of a small blue car. He was wearing a cream jumper and he also asked if she was okay, before driving off along Camps Road in an attempt to find the offender.

Calls in relation to this incident should be made to PC Carl Edley at Haverhill Police on 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
