Work out and keep up with the gossip from the square

By Martin Chapman on Friday, 25th January 2002.

As we lead an increasingly sedentary lifestyle, health and fitness becomes an important part of our lives and now fitness fans can now keep up to date with their favourite television or radio programmes in the newly refurbished fitness studio at Haverhill Leisure Centre.

St Edmundsbury Borough Council’s leisure services committee has agreed to spend £300,000 on a new fitness studio facility and improved exercise equipment.

Designed in a theatre-style the studio’s equipment is arranged around television screens, with a choice television channels including sports, music and news.

The air conditioned studio is twice the size of the original facility and has been designed by the Boroughs architects. The studio includes over 30 items of equipment including treadmills, cross trainers and cycles.

When the studio opened in 1992 it was so popular that customers had to go on a waiting list.

Taking before the re-opening of the centre, Chairman of the Leisure Services Committee, Sara Mildmay-White said: The fitness studio at Haverhill has always been enormously popular, the improvements will allow locals to improve the quality of their lives.”

Fully qualified staff are on hand to take people through a full introduction programme and produce an individual workout programme.

The studio is ideal for adults of all ages and fitness levels with charges beginning at £19 a month.
