World Cup remains trouble-free in Haverhill

Tuesday, 29th June 2010.

England's World Cup campaign came to an end without seriously troubling Haverhill police with any incidents caused by celebration or misery.

Police are still keeping their high-visibility policing operation going through the rest of the comnpetition during matches which are being shown in pubs, but the home games passed off with hardly any trouble.

PCSO Chris Strahm said today they were very happy with the success of the operation in general.

"There were a few incidents on Sunday, but they were minor and we dealt with them, and mostly the whole thing passed off with no problems," he said.

There were small incidents at the Bull and Haverhill Snooker and Bowl, but they were swiftly sorted out.

"There was a bit of disappointment around on Sunday, understandably," he said. "Last Wednesday there was a bit of boisterousness, but it was nothing more than that.

"The operation is still ongoing as there is still the potential for racial conflict for some matches, and matches are still being shown in p0ubs, but we don't anticipate and problems."
