Worth its wait in gold

Thursday, 21st October 1999.

BUSY volunteer Karen Glazebrook has finally made it to St James's Palace to collect her gold Duke of Edinburgh award, just before she goes off to India to work with street children.
Karen, 23, of Tower Court, Haverhill, was one of 395 young people who met the Duke of Edinburgh before being presented with their awards by Quentin Wilson from TV's Top Gear.
Karen should have received her award a year ago, but was unable to keep her date at the Palace because she was working at a community for children and adults with special needs in Portugal.
She said: "We had a really great day at the Palace and I was glad to finally get my award this time."
In between her trips abroad Karen works with residents at Stourmead Close in Kedington, a complex for adults with learning difficulties, and helps at the Haverhill Gateway Club.
On October 27 she will leave on a three-month aid mission to Goa.
