Youth on stabbing charge

Thursday, 23rd August 2001.

A 17-year-old youth who was facing the charge of attempted murder was remanded in custody at Bury St Edmunds youth court yesterday.

The 17-year-old is alleged to have stabbed an18-year-old at around 9pm on Friday night, just yards from were Henry Solt was tragically killed last June.

The teenager who cannot be identified for legal reasons was remanded in custody and will appear again at the youth court on Wednesday, August 29.

The attack occurred in Lieston Road on the Clements Estate last Friday at around 9pm. The victims is recovering from injuries which are described as serious but not life threatening. His condition has been described as improving.

A former resident speaking to the Haverhill Echo called for increased police patrols. Donald Seago of Elm Close said: "One stabbing is too much, another one in about the same area I think means we need a heavier police presence around the estate."

Suffolk Police have appealed for information and urge anyone with information to contact them on 01284 774100.
