I see all five filling stations in Haverhill (including the supermarket) are again selling diesel at the same price. I wonder if David Cameron will let members of the public take over the 'Office of Fair Trading'

I am glad to see that the positive response i received from the local residents (regarding the new croft) is being echoed by the comments on this forum. It appears to me that the whole community (not just footballers) is behind the project. I just hope that the council take note and banish the Cllr's complaints for once and all!
I'm definately with Notanumber on his comment '...I might add, perhaps the individual should resign, due to a conflict of public duties?.......' I doubt that will happen though!
Also, it would be nice if the Cllr would comment on this post (assuming he reads these messageboards), maybe he could tell us what he actually hopes to acheive from his actions? As Nailgunner mentioned the facility will be here to stay, so other than prolonging the inevitable what does he want? Maybe if he sat down with the committee that runs the facility and discussed his 'genuine' concerns he may get a better response? Surely that is what a Cllr should be diong (in my opinion), rather than stirring up trouble at every opportunity?!

As Roversskipper mentions, the new ground owes a lot to the chairman Terry McGerty's efforts over a number of years. The council however, have also been big supporters of this project, as they themselves have invested lots of the funds required to progress the development to where we have it today.
It therefore seems ridiculous that one of their own members is now attempting to heavily restrict the use of this great new facility, by complaining at every opportunity? The new ground is for the whole community to enjoy, and from what I can see this is being ruined by one very selfish individual. Perhaps the councillor should listen to his constituents who are voicing their distinct opposition to the stance he is taking, and maybe even support the project himself?
His actions are nonetheless futile, as the new ground will be here to stay. And despite the best efforts of this one individual, it will be made a success by the other 20-odd thousand Haverhill residents!!!

Great minds think alike 6, you posted what I was intending to! Article and letter in the Echo about the new facility as well. Good to see postings on here....some people must still be reading.

....Zero response, I would expect?....if anything else, some sort of 'Hybrid' foot in one's mouth whilst eating Humble pie would be more suited, but no apologetic retraction........Histrionics tells us that for this individual!
Nice posting..Roversskipper.....seems there's still Life in these Boards after All??

It will be interesting to see how the Cllr.concerned responds.

I am also baffled by the comments in last weeks Echo. In fact I was so baffled I decided to take a stroll around the top of the Chalkstone Estate on Sunday morning and ask the residents themselves. I knocked on every door of Glemsford Place (right opposite the facilty). Unsuprisingly I didnt get one complaint about noise, light etc. Some residents did not realise it had even opened?! I am also aware of a complaint made to the council by a certain Cllr regarding the noise levels during Haverhill Rovers pre-season training (at the new facility), hasn't the Chalkstone field always been home to football matches? Why complain about it now? Will Samuel Ward get a complaint about noise generated at lunchtimes by the pupils, as it is 50yards away from where the training took place? It seems a certain Cllr is using his position to try and settle scores, we all know he did not want the facilty built there in the first place.
Having used the facility I must say it is magnificent and will be brilliant for all footballers of all ages and gender in the town and surrounding villages, remember this is not just for Haverhill Rovers but for the whole community. There is already a very popular Zumba (a sort of Dance/Aerobics I believe) class held there on Tuesday nights among other things.
I urge the whole community of Haverhill to get behind the project and unite against these unjust complaints. then maybe we can start enjoying the facilty as we should.
I would also like to thank Terry McGerty amongst others for all his work regarding the facility, 20 years hard work is now coming to fruition and it has been worth the wait!

I was baffled by that letter in the Echo Wanderer. Obviously I've missed out a chunk of recent Haverhill news as I wasn't aware that people felt there was an issue with the new ground!? Mind you I haven't heard anyone else have any objection. I'm one of the rare ones who has no interest in football whatsoever, but think that it is great for Haverhill and look foward to seeing the new hall (as a place for private party hire in my case).

Don't want to be alarmist, but I can see a situation where floodlight games are postponed due to this one individual. Far fetched? You only have to look at way he got the veterans fun and family day cancelled, and despite the event being widely advertised in the media,no explanation was given for the cancellation, presumably they thought if they ignored him he would go away.Well like all bullies,he hasn't, and now every event held on the New Croft faces potential disruption.

Looks like a new source of revenue (sorry speed camera) is being installed on the A1307, but seems to be on a bend in the road. Can that be correct?

Items we throw away such as bed, television, clothes, furniture, printer, toys, sofa and computer can pass to someone in your community.
Recycling is an effective way to cut down on the use of these limited resources as well as promoting community involvement in the process.
If you haven't heard yet, there is wonderful organization called Free Give Group ( http://www.freegive.co.uk ). Free Give Group connects people who are giving and getting unwanted items for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills and, at the same time, helping someone in your community by gifting them the item you no longer need. Another benefit of using Freegive is that it encourages poeple to get rid of junk that we no longer need and promote community involvement in the process. By using Freegive, not only are you able to get rid of your item with the minimum of fuss; you will also be doing your part in stopping another reusable item ending up in a landfill. It's completely free to join and everything posted must be free.
Freegive group is active in all England regions. Find a group near you at http://www.freegive.co.uk/england.htm
Free give group is active in all United Kingdom and other countries across the world. Find a group near you at http://www.freegive.co.uk/groups.htm
This is a great idea! Encouraging people to reuse and recycle things by giving them away and not sending them to the garbage bin!
I think freegive ( http://www.freegive.co.uk ) is a great way to build a bond in the community and it's always good to recycle. I think it's a fantastic idea and everyone should join!

When the impending pedestrianisation comes to the high street, and the Friday market is also moved there.why not consider the then redundant Market Square for short term parking - especially for the disabled, whose vehicles will no longer have access?

Haverhill Rovers Would that happen to be a certain councillor Gordon Cox? I met him once when I and a friend was at a Haverhill Rovers match a few years ago and he was one to have an opinion on everything, he was also training to be a football referee so he claimed. He seemed a rather self opinionated chap.

On a different topic - I note the Co-Op deli.will no longer operate as from next weekend.Could be the beginning of the end for the Co-Op?

Further to my last post :- A good friend who is in the know tells me it is `alleged` a certain councillor in town who lives close to the new ground refused the `Rovers` a licence. The same councillor is `allegedly` a referee and therefore totally two-faced . The same councillor preaches about helping the town yet at every opportunity `objects` complains and interferes in anything positive for the town - .i.e. New Rovers`....And we vote for them!!!!!"
