Hi Denise, Lauraine and Coco - re Samuel and Sarah Ship: they were witnesses at my great, great, great grandparents' wedding (John Basham and Mary Barrett - m 14 May 1837, Haverhill). I am trying to find out who John's parents were (a brick wall I hit years ago). Was Sarah my John's sister? Was Samuel his best pal and is it just co-incidence that his wife's maiden name was Basham? I have been round and round in circles for ages on this one. I have one likely connection, but no proof - v.v.frustrating - wonder if you know more? Thanks!

My wife is a descendant of Edward MEAD, son of Elisha (aka Elijah) and Sarah Mead of Haverhill. Edward was christened at the Haverhill Old Meeting House as was his brother Elijah and sister Sarah. Edward moved to Birmingham and subsequently set up in business as a pearl button maker.
I am very interested in finding out more about Edward's family, the Haverhill Old Meeting House and the circumstances that resulted in Edward's move to Birmingham. I have found his baptism record on the Cambridgeshire Family History site and records of family members buried at Haverhill cemetery. Any further information greatly appreciated.

Hi
Does anyone know what the connection is between the Nunn family and the Shipp family in Haverhill? My husband is related to a Harry Shipp son of Harriet Shipp and Eliza Nunn is mentioned as the informant on Harry's birth certificate.
Thanks Denise

Does anyone know if Jacob Farrant and Rebecca Clarke had any other children apart from Eliza? I have a James Farrant born about 1869 whose father I believe is a Jacob Farrant living in Haverhill. The marriage date fits, as does the name. I am referring to a post by Lauraine quoted below. Thanks.
Quote:
"hello Denise Eliza Laura Farrant born 1871 married William Walter Fairweather 04/06/1892, her parents were Jacob Farrant who was born 1844 and Rebecca Clarke who were married 18/07/1868, and Jacobs parents were Timothy Farrant and Sarah Cooper who were married 12/03/1837 sarah was a widow,Timothys parents were John Farrant and Dorothy Hurry who married at Withersfield 05/10/1794
i hope this has helped you

Hi TonyN...sorry must be going mad!! My grandma was Ruth Amelia the middle one of the 15 children it was her mother that was Emma nee Medcalf!! Think I may have thought that James was married to a 'Sarah' from familysearch.org...but haven't done much research. We, that is my aunt and her family on my grandmother's side, are still in touch with the family of the brother David who also emigrated to NZ with Christoper after WW1. Hope to here from you again!! Is anyone old enough to remember my grandfather Reuben Nunn's ice cream? (1930s) He used to make it in his garden shed in Helions Park Grove and sell it from a "stop-me-and-buy-one" tricycle.

Jak, thanks for your reply. I think your great-grandfather must have been the other William Nunn (there were at least two of them in Haverhill in the late 19c) - mine had 15 children but none of them called Emma. Yes, Robert's wife Letitia was a Nunn before she married him (I've now got a copy of their marriage cert). I've seen James Nunn in the census records for 1841 (living in Beggar's Row with 6 children) and 1861 (living in Bull Lane with Robert & Letitia). Where did you get the idea that his wife's name might have been Sarah?

Hi, message for TonyN.....my great grandfather was William Nunn....his daughter Emma listed in 1901 as one of his children was my grandmother....can't find out much about James Nunn except that he may have been married to a woman called Sarah...no ides of her maiden name but he was already widowed in 1841. Also his son Robert married a Letitica (several wierd spellings of that throughout the census results!) who appears to have been Nunn before he married her in 1850. She eneded up in the workhouse at Kedington in 1901 and is buried in haverhill cemetry. Also just discovered from the burial site link that she had a son, George?? Anyway don't always look on here often but will check in regularly for any reply.

I have found WALTER BRADFORD on the 1881 census for Haverhill shown as the stepson of one JAMES ARGENT (Confectioner) can any ARGENT researchers find a link for me? what I am trying to find really is the former marriage of his wife EMMA and the name of her former husband.
