Bands line up to fight it out

Friday, 5th February 2010.

The first heat of Riffed: Haverhill Battle Of The Bands 2010 takes place tonight from 8pm at Haverhill Arts Centre.

The line-up in order of appearance will be: Stop Thompson – an acoustic rock folk band from Haverhill, who have previously entered Burysound; Kadesh – a classic rock/funk band from Haverhill formed in March 2009; Faith In Hours – an instrumental rock band formed at West Suffolk College and new to the Battle Of The Bands.

The annual contest, which used to be known as Haverhill Rock Competition, gives a platform to new bands so that they can play big audiences with a full PA and lighting rig.

The winners receive time in a recording studio and a gig at Haverhill Arts Centre with additional prizes for the runners-up and the audience’s favourite.

Punk bands, heavy rock, grunge, melodic rock and bouncy pop have all entered past competitions and winners have come from Haverhill, Saffron Walden and Great Abington.

Last year’s triumphant band were Haverhill-based Selective Walk. The final takes place on Saturday 27 March at 8pm

Doors open at 7.30pm. No unaccompanied under 14s are allowed and proof of age may be required.
