Carisbrooke to make Haverhill Business Park a reality

By Martin Chapman on Friday, 15th March 2002.

Haverhill Business Park is to become a reality after London based Carisbrooke Associates announced they wanted to “take the bull by the horns” in improving Haverhill’s bad historical image.

Nic Rumsey, of Carisbrooke admitted at a breakfast meeting if Business Network International that the development for the 64-acre site on the Suffolk-Essex border would be “falling off a log” inc comparison with previous developments.

Speaking to the Echo, after the meeting Mr Rumsey did admitted there had been reservations about using Haverhill in the developments name.

“Historically the town has had a stigma and a bad self-image but that is changing and we are going to be a part of changing it.”

“We will be doing our bit to promote Haverhill. We have taken the bull by the horns and want to be seen to be embracing the community.”

Mr Rumsey has described the 1000 jobs the site was expected to create, as conservative. He indicated that if office space was attracted to the development that number could soar.

As a result of lower cost and more convenient access, it is expected that the Essex part of the site will be developed first.

Mr Rumsey revealed that the planning permission problems encountered by the previous owners had been solved. The development would also contribute to traffic management solutions for the town.
