Concert features Mozart arias and Mahler songs

Tuesday, 6th April 2010.

Haverhill's professional orchestra, the Arnold Sinfonia, gives another programme of music at Haverhill Arts Centre on Sunday, featuring music by Mendelssohn, Mozart, Mahler, Beethoven, Verdi and Matthew Arnold.

The orchestra is joined by soprano Joo Cho in two arias by Mozart, one from The Magic Flute and the other from The Marriage Of Figaro, and then four songs from Mahler's cycle Des Knaben Wunderhorn.

Joo Cho was born in South Korea and has sung in leading opera houses in Korea, Germany and Italy.

The programme opens with Beethoven's Overture The Ruins Of Athens, followed by the Prelude to Act One of Verdi's La Traviata.

Matthew Arnold's Serenade continues the orchestra's tradition of airing music by its late composer patron, and the evning is rounded off by Mendelssohn's ebullient Symphony No 4 'Italian'.

The concert is conducted by the sinfonia's musical director Kevin Hill and begins at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10 for adults, £6 for OAPs and students and £2 for 16s and under.
