Copacabana promises a dazzling musical show

Monday, 17th October 2011.

The music of Barry Manilow and the story of Lola, the showgirl from the Copacabana Club comes to Haverhill Arts Centre Stage from tomorrow until Saturday.

The dazzling show Copacabana is being staged by Haverhill-based Centre Stage Company's youth group.

A cast of over 30 youngster bring the exotic tale to life, based around the character's in Manilow's biggest hit song.

The story follows Stephen (Cian Harriss), an aspiring songwriter who is obsessed with trying to compose a song about the world-famous Copacabana (much to his wife Samantha’s annoyance!).

His imagination takes him back to 1947 were we meet Lola from Tulsa (Lauren Chinery), who arrives in New York following her dream to become a star.

She gets a job at the Copacabana but is then kidnapped by vicious gangster Rico (Max Murphy). But will the story follow the song into tragedy, or will it all come right this time?

The show is directed by Lee Mayes, who starred in the youth group's last production, All Shook Up, and the orchestra is conducted by the group's musical director Karen Chinery.

Tickets available from 01440 714140
