Getting people back into work

Friday, 27th November 2009.

An event aimed at getting people back into employment was organised by West Suffolk College’s Haverhill LEAP Centre on Wednesday and has been hailed as a huge success by all who took part.

Getting Back To Work, which was sponsored by Haverhill Town Council and held in the Arts Centre, saw teams from West Suffolk College working alongside staff from Haverhill JobCentre Plus, Menta, Skills4Trades and the Haverhill Volunteer Organisation.

Members of the public were offered careers advice and guidance on retraining, local courses, and writing a CV. They could also find out how to set up their own business and become self-employed.

More than 40 people signed up for courses and workshops which are available in the town.

The new St Edmundsbury Council portfolio holder for Haverhill, Cllr Anne Gower, who visited the event, said how pleased she was to see local organisations working together to provide such a fantastic opportunity for people in the town who are currently seeking employment.

If you missed the event, drop in at the LEAP Centre in the High Street or call 01440 712177 for advice and information.
