Haverhill is alive to The Sound Of Music this week

Tuesday, 16th October 2012.

One of the greatest musical favourites of all time, The Sound Of Music, opens in Haverhill this evening and runs for the rest of the week.

The town's Centre Stage Company presents the Rogers and Hammerstein classic each evening at 7.30pm at Haverhill Arts Centre, with a matinee on Saturday, but performances from Friday onwards are already sold out.

There are a few tickets available for tonight, Wednesday and Thursday, from the centre box office on 01440 714140.

Kelly Mepham, who played Maria when the company produced the show in 2001, returns to the role, but this time playing opposite her husband Adam as the formidable Captain Von Trapp.

The company has cast two teams of children as his family of seven, taking alternate performances.

Familiar Centre Stage faces fill other main roles - Jane Baillie as Elsa, Tom Ogden as Max, Debbi Walters as the Mother Abbess and Max Murphy as Rolf.

The cast and orchestra are conducted by Karen Chinery and the show has been directed by David Hart.

In a new departure for the company, the production features elements of projection to achieve some of the authentic Alpine landscape of the ever-popular story, which includes such classic songs as How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, My Favourite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Sixteen Going On Seventeen,Edelweiss, Climb Every Mountain and,of course, the title song.
