Letter from the organisers of Haverhill Remembrance Festival

Tuesday, 2nd November 2010.

Never mind 'Britain's Got Talent'! Haverhill did itself proud last Friday and Saturday with the Remembrance Festival held at the Arts Centre.

What a wealth of talent, skills and ingenuity went into the many varied performances, displays and activities.

All these hopefully helped those who attended to think more deeply about the many aspects of war and conflict, with such wide-ranging consequences.

So many people of all ages gave a great deal of time and effort to put this event together. I'd like to thank all the participants for being so enthusiastic, and I'd also like to thank the people of Haverhill and district for coming along to support their efforts.

Any show needs an audience and we were very pleased to see so many visitors throughout the two days.

It was particularly good to hear that people had met up with friends or relatives from years ago, and even some who discovered new relatives from reading the family stories contained in the Roll of Honour.

The Roll of Honour is available to view in the Local History Centre and also for the month of November, in the Bistro at the Arts Centre, is a display titled 'Haverhill Remembers' including art work from the festival, by local school children.

Thanks should also go to Alan Bumpstead, the Chairman of Suffolk Family History's Haverhill Group, whose vision this was and who has worked tirelessly over the past year to keep the rest of us on target with this very worthy project.

The Roll of Honour is a work in progress, and following new leads at the weekend, we will be able to add more details and photographs to some pages.
JUDITH RYE,
Vice-Chairman, Haverhill Group, Suffolk Family History Society
