Panto Puss puts the boot into an 'Orrible Ogre

Friday, 21st January 2011.

A cat with the remarkable gift of speech takes to the stage in Haverhill for the first time tonight, continuing for the next couple of weekends.

Puss In Boots is this year's pantomime by Haverhill-based Centre Stage Company, and it has been written by one of the group's members, Lorraine Mason.

It follows the traditional story of poor miller Jack and his two idiot brothers, and Jack's cat which is given the power of speech by a fairy.

The cat's first plan is to make his master's fortune so he can marry the king's daughter, but he gets side-tracked by having to defeat the evil deeds of Olaf the 'Orrible Ogre on the way.

The show is directed by a star of past Centre Stage pantomimes, Steve Powter, and features the usual mix of song, dance, dreadful puns and slapstick comedy, with a bit of swordfighting thrown in this year for good measure.

Among the Centre Stage regulars in the cast are Lauren Chinery as Princess Bethany, Andy Letcher as the king, Steven Roach in the title role and Denise Clayden and Becca Neal reprising their double act as the two idiots.

There are nine performances over two weeks, two of which are already sold out.

But there are tickets available for the others at prices ranging from £6 to £8, from Haverhill Arts Centre box office on 01440 714140 or book on line at http://www.haverhillartscentre.co.uk/events-01-january.htm
