Panto swings into action to aid earthquake victims

Saturday, 23rd January 2010.

Local actors are joining forces with Haverhill Arts Centre to raise money for Haitian earthquake victims at the town's pantomime, which opened last night.

Centre Stage Company's production of The Hunchback Of Notre Dame runs for nine performances and there will be collections held throughout the run for the disaster relief.

The show opened to a p[acked audience of children from St Felix Primary School nd their families and friends, sponsored by IFF.

Tickets are available for most other shows in the run, which are today (Saturday) and tomorrow at 2pm and 6pm, Thursday and Friday at 7.30pm and next Saturday at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

The show features Haverhill Town Council's arts and leisure manager Nick Keeble as a very French dame, who makesw some striking comparisons between Haverhill and Paris.

The story is a light-hearted treatment of the classic tale, a blend of action, comedy, songs and dances, accompanied by Centre Stage's ever-popular panto band.

* Our picture, by Robert Parr, shows some of the celebrations at the happy ending of the panto.
