Search for stars during summer holiday week

Wednesday, 7th July 2010.

The search is on for 50 of the most talented young people across the county to join the Suffolk Youth Theatre Summer School this August.

In just one week of intense workshops and rehearsals, budding actors will devise and perform an original piece of theatre, fusing drama, music and dance.

The summer school will be held at Northgate Arts Centre in Ipswich from August 2-6 and is open to anyone aged 13 and over.

Jos Leeder, adviser for drama and dance for the Inclusive School Improvement Service, said; “The summer school is designed to enable young people who like acting, singing and dancing to take part in an exciting five-day workshop which focuses all their attention and talent on staging a one-off high energy performance.”

Many of the young people involved in the summer school study drama and performing arts at both GCSE and A level and even go on to pursue these interests at degree level.

Several past members are now working professionally in theatre and film and can be seen in the West End, National Theatre and on BBC1.

Each day begins at 9.30 am and finishes at 4.30pm with the exception of Friday, August 6, when the final performance takes place at 7pm. The charge for the whole week is £50 per person.

Application forms can be obtained from Northgate Arts Centre 01473 281866 or by contacting: clare.shemming@suffolk.gov.uk
