Town council employees are raising charity cash

Tuesday, 4th June 2013.

Haverhill Town Council employees have been working tirelessly to raise funds for charity in recent weeks.

Mary Argent, Helen Barker and Dylan Mills braved a cold London night on May 11 to complete the Moonwalk, an overnight walk of the London Marathon route, in aid of the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity.

Their proud achievement, blighted only by a few blisters, raised over £200.

Their next fundraising event is the Grand Jumble Sale, this Saturday at Haverhill Arts Centre from 10am to 2pm.

After that Helen and Mary will be running in the Race for Life in Cambridge on July 21 to raise money for Cancer Research, and then on September 14 they will be participating in the Girls Night Out, an 11-mile walk in Bury St Edmunds, in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care.

The same efforts last year raised over £1,000 for charity, and the gallant fundraisers are on course to beat that total in 2013.

Will Austin, town clerk, said: “I am so proud of their efforts, and have no idea where they find the energy to do all of this fundraising when I make them work so hard for the town council and the Arts Centre! I only wish I had their drive and determination!”
