Town gears up for its biggest night of the year

Friday, 28th November 2014.

Next Friday will be Haverhill Town Council’s Family Christmas Night with the Christmas Lights Switch-On and Late Night Shopping plus the Grand Fireworks Display.

This year the lights will be switched on by the sassy blue star of Britain’s Got Talent, Patsy May. Patsy has taken time out from her busy schedule to squeeze in her turn on the Market Square at 6.30pm.

After she switches on the lights, including those designed by Haverhill School Children, she says is dying to try out a ‘Drabbet’ - before she jets off to her next appointment.

In Queen Street and the High Street many shops will be staying open late for Christmas shopping and there will be fairground rides, charity stalls and street entertainers. At the Arts Centre there will be a Christmas Craft Fair from 5.30pm to 8.15pm.

Every year thousands of Haverhill folk flock to the Recreation Ground to see the spectacular, free firework display, which this year promises to be a popular as ever. It will fired to the sound of the big pop hits of 2014.

The next day will see the return of free ice-skating on the market square - come along and do your best arabesque between 10am and 4pm.

The town council’s firework display and ice-skating are free but there will be a voluntary bucket collection. Proceeds will help fund the activities for next year.

Some road closures will be in place on Friday. They are as follows:
High Street, closed from 1pm–11pm;
Queen Street, closed from 10am–11pm;
Swan Lane, closed from 1pm–11pm;
Peas Hill, closed from 1pm–11pm;
Camps Road, closed from 7pm–9pm;
Chauntry Road, closed from 7pm–9pm;
Mill Road, closed from 7pm–9pm;
Recreation Road, closed from 7.30pm–9pm.
